2022: A Year in Running

What a year 2022 has been!

I don’t think anyone expected what the last few years had thrown us. With bushfires, COVID, flash flooding, building a house and just general life stresses.

In past years I have set running goals like run the year, which I have completed every year since 2018.

Running the year, 2022km was the goal, but I knew by April that I had to let that goal go.

My heart just wasn’t in it anymore.

After the whole debacle of the Melbourne Marathon. I realised that the joy of racing and running in general just wasn’t there anymore.

In 2023 I see a shift in my running and racing goals. I want the joy again.

Middle Gap

Overall living in Halls Gap for 2022 wasn’t too back. However, I didn’t hit the trails as much as I would have liked, but I have still enjoyed my time out in the Gap.

The biggest takeaway in 2022 when it came to my running was that running should bring me joy, and comparing myself to old me or others doesn’t bring me joy.

Running now isn’t a way to help me lose weight go to keep fit. It’s about decompressing my day, recentering myself, and being out in nature.

What will 2023 bring? We’ll have to wait and see.
