Lets get baking with goals

Now if you thinking what does baking a cake have to do with goals?
Surprising a lot.

Today I’m going to break down the process of baking a cake, and how you can apply that to your goals.

So let’s get baking with goals!

Step 1 – Decisions

It’s a bit hard to bake a cake if you don’t know what cake you want to bake.

There are so many different cakes out there.

  • Chocolate
  • Vanilla
  • Fruit
  • Cheesecake
  • Gluten-Free
  • Nut free

And so forth.

It’s important you are clear about what type of cake you want to bake.

Why? Well, the cake you bake will determine the ingredients that you need.

Goal Relation

Make your goal/s clear and precise.  This will help you get to your desired outcome and is measurable.

Step 2 – Gather your Ingredients

Let’s say that we have decided on baking this cake.

Look closely at the ingredients and then go through your pantry to make sure you have all the necessary ingredients.

Don’t overlook that step.  You’d be surprised at how many times I have gone to make a cake assuming I had the ingredients only to discover I didn’t.

When you know what is in your pantry, you then know what you need to buy at the store.

Once you have all your ingredients, then you can start baking.

Goal Relation

Get all the information you need to make your goal doable and achievable.

Step 3 – Follow the recipe

Recipes are the result of trial and error.  Someone has gone to the effort to refine and tweak the recipe so you don’t end up with a sloppy mess.

So it’s vital that you read the recipe before you start putting things into your bowl.

Make sure you understand all the steps before you even break an egg.

Once you understand the recipe, start your creation. But trust in the recipe.

Goal Relation

Follow the steps of your plan to get to your desired goal.

Step 4 – Bake

You’ve mixed together your ingredients and your batter is ready.

Pour it into the pan, and put it in the oven/fridge for its dedicated time.

Goal Relation

All your planning and preparation is now in action, and you are achieving your goal.

Step 5 – Rest

The timer has gone off, and now your cake is ready to come out of the oven/fridge.

But it’s way too hot to eat, we need to allow it to rest and cool down.

Goal Relation

Take a moment to reflect on your journey.

Bonus Step 6 – Icing on the cake

Once the cake has cooled down you may now decide to ice it.

You may need to follow the same first three steps when you do the icing.

Personally, I like going without the “frill” of icing.

Goal Relation

You may be completely satisfied with your goal and don’t need the ‘extras. But if you do want the icing on the cake then of course you’ll have to work for that too.

The icing doesn’t make the cake any less than what it is.  It’s still a cake, just dressed up.

Step 7 – Enjoy your Cake

Your cake is now baked, it has icing or not.

So sit down and enjoy every last bite of your creation.

You made it, reflect on your journey and be proud you completed and achieved your goal.

Stay tuned next week for Troubleshooting, for those times that you follow the recipe but it still turns out a dud.

I honestly do not like to bake, I am awful at it. However, I have never looked at it this way. Cute post.

Love this! I love how you broke these down into something that’s much easier to understand, like baking a cake!

  3. This is seriously creative:) Love your analogy of cake and goals!!!
When you break down a goal, and focus on it one step at a time, and make sure you are ready and have all the info and motivation you need, goals can become acheiveable instead of just “wishes”. Great post, love your idea here!!!

  4. I love this analogy! It’s so true. Thanks for the fun and creative post. It has been a pleasure getting to know your blog via the Grow Your Blog Hop. Cheers!

  5. Good analogy, but my baking skills are so terrible that I always feel like a failure 😉 Enjoyed learning about you blog via the blog hop!

  6. Great analogy! Goal setting is so important for so many activities, even those that we don’t often associate it with.

  7. I find that reading the entire recipe before I start really does helps! I tend to skim the recipe while I’m baking if I don’t read it beforehand and end up making mistakes!
