“Balance.” That’s my word for 2025. It’s a simple word, but it carries so much weight. For me, it represents the quest to find harmony in all areas of my life: work, home, family, and, of course, my fitness journey.
Like many of us, I’ve struggled to juggle it all. Finding that sweet spot between running and strength training, between pushing myself and allowing for rest, has been a series of trial and error. But I’m happy to say, I think I’m finally getting there.
My running plan for 2025 is designed with flexibility in mind. Three core running days, with the option to add an “easy” day when I feel up to it. It’s a sustainable approach that allows me to enjoy my runs without feeling overwhelmed. And for strength training? Four sessions a week, focusing on upper and lower body, push and pull exercises. It’s a regimen that leaves me feeling strong and energized, not depleted.
The proof is in the pudding, as they say. Recently, I completed my first 11km run in over a year. Yes, I embraced the run-walk intervals (I’m fully and proudly in my run-walk era!), and you know what? I felt fantastic afterwards. No post-run exhaustion, no feeling like I’d been hit by a truck. Just a sense of accomplishment and a renewed love for running.

With the 2025 SAAC season looking uncertain, I’ve decided to focus on building my distance and exploring the trails. It’s a shift in focus, but one I’m excited about. I’ve already set my sights on a 12km trail run in Daylesford in May, intending to tackle a half-marathon trail run later in the year.
It’s been a journey of adjustments and self-discovery, but I’m finally starting to feel like I’m finding the right balance. It’s not about perfection; it’s about creating a lifestyle that supports my physical and mental well-being.
Here’s what I’ve learned so far:
- Flexibility is key: Don’t be afraid to adjust your plans as needed.
- Embrace run-walk intervals: They’re a fantastic way to build endurance and enjoy your runs.
- Listen to your body: Rest is just as important as training.
- Find joy in the journey: Focus on progress, not perfection.
- Set achievable goals: Celebrate your successes, big and small.
Things are looking up, and I’m excited to see what 2025 brings. Here’s to finding balance and embracing the adventure!
