Ultimate Coffee Date #24

It’s officially winter down our next of the woods, and we have had some very wintering cold days.

All the more reason to have a hot drink for this month’s Coffee Date.

So pull up a chair, get relaxed and let’s catch up.

If we were sitting down for coffee I would tell you that in May I covered a total of 114km. That brings my yearly running total to 603km.  This is just under my 1500km goal for the year, however, there will be some big km coming up in the next few months, so no doubt that this will bump up my average.

If we were sitting down for coffee I would tell you that Run the Gap was a huge hit this year, with race entries increasing by 1/3, from 750ish in 2015 to 1150ish in 2016!

RTG 2016

My 21km race was a huge hit, with over 130 trail runners entering the event.

Next year I will be the tail runner because there is no denying that those numbers will increase again.

If we were sitting down for coffee I would tell you that I’ve been pretty happy with how my SAAC Running has been going.

I’ve decided I won’t do race recaps on each race, but give you a ‘run’ down during our coffee dates instead.

The LW Kent Memorial was a tough race, with a downhill start, but an uphill finish.

For the Community Axis & the Stawell Toyota races I ran at a fast tempo pace, but no PB’s. But I’m ok with that, I had fun, and that’s what it’s all about.

If we were sitting down for coffee I would tell you that I bit the bullet and decided to get an online coach and a tailored training plan for Peaks & Trails in August.

I started my new plan at the end of May.  So far so good.  I decided on a custom plan because it’s 26km in distance, not your half or full marathon.  It’s also a trail run, and I want to do well.

Having a coach will keep me accountable, and push me that little bit more.  It will stop me from ‘winging it’, which I have a tendency to do, with training plans.

My new coach is Chris, and you can find him over at Go Run.

If we were sitting down for coffee I would tell you that we had family come down to visit us.

It was great to see how much the kids have grown. I also got lots of baby snuggles. Who doesn’t like baby snuggles?!

Overall May has been a great month.

I’ll see you in July with more news.

If we were sitting down for coffee what would you tell me?
