There are runners that love listening to music on each and every run. Then there are runners who much prefer silence. And then there are those who can live with it but sometimes go without it.
Me? I’m the latter. I enjoy runs with music, and sometimes without. I will admit that I have enjoyed running with no music lately. I have found I’m more consistent with my breathing and more focused on my actual run.
There are some days however when I just want to get away from the thoughts in my head, and that’s when music steps in.
Music has the power to really motivate you during a training run (or even a race). Sometimes it just takes one song to help you push that little bit further.
Here is my recent playlist:
When I created this particular playlist I had ‘Shuffle’ in mind.
You see I’ve updated my computer and so all my music got reset to 0 plays. This has been a blessing in disguise because I’ve rediscovered songs, I’d totally forgotten about! So when I heard the song, I was like “oh this would be a good running song, and I would just ‘dump’ it into this playlist folder. This is why I like playing this particular playlist on shuffle. That way I don’t get bored with the order, and I love the guessing game of “what song is going to be next”.
Do you run with or without music?
Fav song at the moment?
Do you listen to music during your race events? If so why?
Great playlist! I love to run with music when I am training, but not in races:)
I’ve done races with music and without, but I have found recently, that I much prefer races without. I’m more aware of how I’m running, which with music you can’t be, well for me I have found that is.
I have only recently this year started running with music. To start with I used the app Trail Mix Pro, so it changed the beat of the music to the pace I was setting (or not setting as the case may be) as I found it hard to be in a different beat to the music. But now I just play the music. And certainly a few songs come on and I swear I run with attitude. “We will Rock you” by Queen is a goodie, I do believe I almost strut and run at the same time. And I love Blondie’s “One way or another” just fits my pace perfectly.
So the first time I ran an actual race with music was the Surf T Surf in January. It was windy and at one stage my earphones blew out. But I think it was good to be lost in my own little world.

I’ve never heard of this app, I will have to check it out.
When I can’t be bothered making my own playlist, rockmyrun fills the gap.
I always listen to music on my runs. Country music to be precies. I love to listen to the stories in the songs. And the music helps to keep me going. My favorite song is ‘Is this the way to Amarillo?’
