I’m a huge fan of Carrie Brown‘s Recipes.
I’m slowly going through her recipes. I try a new one every few weeks. I have to choose which ones I will try on my own, and choose ones I think the kids will enjoy.
Today’s tired and tested recipe is Carrie’s Hot & Nutty Cereal.
To be honest I wasn’t really sure how this one was going to go. I tried it, and thought yeah I like this, but I think I will enjoy it more with milk. So the next time I made it, I tried it with milk. And I had a taste bud sensation. Those little taste buds of mine loved it, they were having a happy dance. I also tried it with coconut milk. Another win.
So if you are looking for a SANE alternative to porridge then this one is a winner. Now depending how you like your porridge will determine if you want it with milk or with hot water. For me, it’s milk.
I also found that 1/2 cup was way too much for me, I would always leave some left in the bowl. 1/3 of a cup however is perfect, which means when I make the bulk recipe, I have 15 servings instead of 10, another win.
I just gobbled up a bowl of this on this cold Autumn morning, a perfect pick me up after being up at sparrow’s fart for a run.
