Point Cook Parkrun #484

Who would have thought it’d be over two years since I last laced up my runners for a Point Cook Parkrun adventure? Time flies when you’re having fun.

With a trip to Melbourne on the cards, and a need to burn off some pre-flight jitters, I decided it was time to rediscover the joy of free, weekly exercise. Dropping Tom off at the airport was the perfect excuse to combine a good deed with a good run.

First stop: the loo. Classic. Thankfully, Point Cook Parkrun has you covered on that front. Crisis averted!

I was curious to see how the course had changed since my last visit. Turns out, Point Cook Parkrun has been busy! A new sheltered BBQ area? Score! And they’re working on the rail trail? Even better! This place is upgrading its game.

Determined to push myself, I ditched the leisurely pace and opted for a solid tempo run. And let me tell you, there’s something oddly satisfying about being the only one brave enough to claim the front spot on the start line. I mean, someone’s gotta do it, right?

As the starting gun fired, I settled into a rhythm. It’s amazing how easy it is to get caught up in the moment and forget about the world around you. Before I knew it, the speedy runners were whizzing past, including a few impressive women who inspired me to up my game.

Halfway through, I found myself hot on the heels of Singlet Lady and Blue Hat Lady. Let the games begin! With a burst of energy in the final kilometre, I managed to overtake Blue Hat Lady and closed in on Singlet Lady. So close, yet so far! Still, it was a solid effort, and I crossed the finish line feeling pretty good about myself.

25:45 – not too shabby! Sub-25, here I come in 2025!

So, there you have it. Point Cook Parkrun is back on my radar. It’s a great way to start the weekend, get some fresh air, and maybe even challenge yourself a little. Who’s in?
