2020 Reading Check in #1

With 1/4 of the year already behind us, it’s time to check in with my reading goal.

Earlier this year, I created a list of all the books I had planned to read for the year.  You can find that list here: What to read for 2020.

How is my reading going?  It’s going better than expected. I have a steady stream of books to read.  Cracking a list of all my unread books has helped me to read them.

Ok, so I will admit, that I did buy a few new books.  Simply for the fact that because our library is closed (indefinitely), I can no longer put a hold on books, and I want to read these.

I’ve made a promise to myself that I need to finish a few more books before I read them.

2020 Reading List

  1. Light – Michael Grant
  2. Toxic Childhood – Sue Palmer
  3. Star-Crossed – Minnie Darke (A)
  4. The girl with no name – Diney Costeloe
  5. Heart-Shaped Hack – Tracey Garvis Graves
  6. Knotted Roots – Ruthi Kight
  7. Every Lie I Ever Told – Rosie Waterland (A)
  8. The Ex – Nicola Moriarty (A)
  9. Lift Like a Girl – Nia Shanks
  10. The Maze Runner – Janes Dashner (A)
  11. Roar – Dr Stacy Sims
  12. Providence – Jamie McGuire
  13. Requiem – Jamie McGuire
  14. Wonder – R.J Palacio

The most surprising read out of this list would have to be The Girl with No Name.  I don’t normally read historical (set during WW2) fiction, but this one was interesting.  On the long side, but interesting all the same.

The Maze Runner was also thoroughly enjoyable, and I look forward to listening to the rest of the series. Now that I have read book 1, I can watch the movie.

Speaking of movies.  I watched Wonder last year.  I knew it was based on a book and had added it to the reading list ages ago.

You know what reading lists are like.  Finish 1 book, and add 5 more.  So when I came across the audiobook I thought I would give it a go.  Sure, there were minor differences from book to movie, but it was still a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Currently Reading

  • Becoming – Michelle Obama (A)
  • Eden – Jamie McGuire (book 3 of The Providence Series)

I’ll be honest here, I’m struggling with this Jamie McGuire trilogy.  It is D.R.A.G.G.I.NG  It’s seriously killing me.  I’ve read other books by this author with no issue.  But this series, argh.  It’s trying to be Twilight & Fallen, but it’s not.  Needless to say, I’ve been occupying myself with other things than reading.  Hence the Michelle Obama book.

When this book is over, I’m choosing a book that I so very want to read (most likely the Company Series).
