Kayaking, Fishing & Wartook

It is safe to say that I have never gone kayaking let alone fishing but on Christmas day?! Yeah totally unheard of for me.  Wait I congress, I have been kayaking before, but not combined with fishing.

But that’s what I did this 2013 Christmas, and guess what? I had a great time.

Yes would have loved to have done it with the kids, and we will, as there are plenty more summer holiday’s left before the start of the 2014 school year, so there will be plenty more kayaking and fishing adventures.

We were out on the water for about 2 to 2 & 1/2 hours.  I will be honest and did not think we were out that long, the time passed by so quickly.  If I didn’t have my camera or was wearing my watch I would have assumed that we were only there for about an hour.  It’s quite deceiving how quickly time passes by.  Especially on summer nights.

Being out on the water was relaxing and soothing. But best of all, besides being the only ones out there on the water, was that I got to spend time with my best friend.

I could have sat in that kayak and would have been quite happy just drifting and watching the landscape around me.

Tom was the one that was fishing.  He wasn’t catching anything though, not even a nibble.  He asked me I wanted to give it a go.  Having never been fishing before I thought “why not”.  So after a quick “how to fish” workshop from Tom I cast my lure out into lake Wartook.

Never did I imagine that I would actually catch something.  As I’m reeling in the lure I asked “How do you know when you’ve?….. oo, oooh oooh! OMG NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Yes, I kid you not, I caught a fish!  It was only a little Redfin but who cares “I CAUGHT A FISH!” Yes, I got excited, but can you blame me?

Needless to say, I had a great time, and look forward to doing it again.

Have you ever been fishing before?
Have you ever gone kayaking?

  1. Fishing is one of my favorite past times, in the summer I like to go a couple of times a week:) But here it is full on winter and I am not much of an ice fisherwoman:)

I love to Kayak too, but I don’t go quite as often as I would like. But once I went Kayaking in the bermuda triangle, I love to tell people that they look at me like I am nuts.
If I lived closer to the Colorado River, I would so be a kayak river guide, one of my only regrets from my early 20’s was not being a river guide:)

sorry to keep going on, your post drew up lots of good memories and now I am in happy land:) Which is great because I have 2 feet of snow in my backyard and it’s only about 13 degree’s today:) Glad you had such a good time out fishing, I can honestly say I have never done fishing on a kayak:) Enjoy your Christmas summertime!!!

    1. A kayak river guide, that sounds so awesome.

We’ve taken the kids kayaking (in really shallow water – walkable for them), and they loved it, the look on their faces was priceless.

Next time try kayak fishing, I think you’ll love it too.
