Resolutions + Giveaway

December is upon us.  For some of us that means winter and snow.  Me however means summer and sun.  Yay!

So now that December is pretty much here I want to ask you how your goals or New Years Resolutions are coming along?

Mine are going smashing! I write my goals every week.  It really helps me to reinforce what I want and then go out and achieve it.

My goals at the start of the year were:

1. Run 7 fun runs
2. Run 3 half marathons
3. Have a veggie patch
4. Have a chicken coop
5. Run 1000km
6. Run from Halls Gap to Stawell
7. Pay off hecs (University Fee’s)
8. Read / listen to 30 books
9. Be a pace runner for a half marathon
10. Own an iPad

So how did I go? Well Lets break it down.

Run 7 Fun Runs

  1. Tough Mudder (more of an event, but still lots of running involved)\
  2. Run 4 the Kids
  3. Geelong Half Marathon
  4. Run the Gap
  5. Run Melbourne
  6. Heart Challenge
  7. Mosaic to Mountain

Goal achieved.

Run 3 Half Marathons

  1. Geelong Half Marathon
  2. Run Melbourne
  3. N/A

Goal not achieved. But I’m ok with that.  Running the 3rd half marathon just didn’t present itself at the right time. It was either too close to the half marathons I was doing, or clashed with other things in my life. Still running 2 half marathons in a year is a pretty good effort.

Have a Veggie Patch

This one took a while to get up and running. First, we had to get materials, then we had to allocate time to dig up the garden, but the patches are up and running, and the kids love them. You can read more about it here.
Goal Achieved.

Have a Chicken Coop

We don’t have the chicken coop just yet.  First, we had to get rid of the cat.  Oliver is now living with my parents, which is great for Miles considering he is allergic to cats (one of the reasons is he got adopted by my folks).
We also have to build the coop, which we haven’t done yet as we are still in the design stages. We plan to use recyclable materials. We have measured it up, we just need to make a trip down to the tip to see what supplies they can give us.  All in good time.
We have named our chickens, even though we don’t have them yet.

Goal in Progress

Run 1000km

As you would know by this post, I accomplished this goal.

Goal Achieved.

Run From Halls Gap to Stawell

I will let you know now, that this was a great idea, but the logistics of it and training are going to take more time. I may still consider this, but this goal came off the list around June, as I knew it wasn’t possible for me to achieve it without injury or sacrificing family time. Family is more important.

The goal moved to one day pile.

Pay off Hecs

Is my university debt.  I’m not working (just freelance stuff), so this goal is taking a long time to achieve.  However I’m getting there, and I am paying it down.  Once it’s paid off, the money I have put aside for it will go to the house.

The goal still in progress

Read / Listen to 30 Books

This goal went from 30 to 52 now it’s at 60.  Yes, that’s right 60 books.

So far I have read 54 books. 42 of those books I have read with my eyes, 11 I have listened too.

Goal at first stage achieved.
Goal at readjusted stage is in progress.

Be a pace runner for a half marathon

I enquired about this for Run Melbourne, last year.  I got an email, I replied back, but they never got back to me.

I ran with a pace group when I did Run Melbourne this year and it was truly fantastic.  Next time I will aim to be a pace runner at a small community event instead.

Goal not achieved – but readjusted for future.

Own an iPad

Thanks to some savvy savings and a tax return, I achieved this goal a few weeks ago. I love my iPad. It makes going to meetings and taking notes so much easier. It also makes all those paleo cookbooks easier to read and use.

  1. ahhh…summer! I can only dream of New Year’s in the summer. 🙂
I am planning to run 14 in 2014 (that’s 14 races in 2014) and I would like to run another marathon.
I’ve been thinking that I should get some audio books on itunes to listen to during my long runs. Great reminder!

  3. Finished my double degree, I had circumstances which required me to defer my exams. The person in charge of deferring exams was checking names off as we got to stage to make sure we were in order. He read my name out as the next person (two people verify youre the right person before officially called onto stage in line). He paused, looked up and put all the paper work on the floor to shake my hand and congratulated me. I didn’t walk until I was two and my mother was told don’t expect much she will never walk or talk or have a normal education. I did not get into Masters but currently I am in Pharmacy school to become a Pharmacist. I look forward to having all my HECS paid.

      1. 2 degrees. It was triple major and minor lol. I deferred them to the supp period which is usually in Jan and the exams are in Nov. But due to my issues I sat one in March. It’s good when you get understanding unit coordinators. I deferred two out of three purely because I didn’t get along with the third and didn’t want to discuss with him. My best uni friend graduated with me as I deferred a different unit completely. So worked out well in the end. Now I am slogging another degree but it’s okay I’ll get there.

Initially my three exams were all in a row as well so like Tuesday morning, Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. It’s a degree in Forensic Biology and Toxicology and a degree in science majoring in Molecular Biology and Biomedical Science.

  4. LadyTiffany OfGlencoe

Achieved the home renovations on time for Christmas…in 2014 I want to achieve giving more to help others in need 🙂

  5. My Greatest Achievement is finally getting my Provisional Drivers licence after 10 long years! Yes don’t laugh it took that long because I had a fear of driving after multiple crashes as being a passenger, and I really didn’t need or want it back then! But I shoved my fear away, and I’m a different person who is independent and a good driver! And I really thought I would never get it, but determination conquers all! As for 2014 I’d love to start on my own employment and earning a great career, just like My Mum!
