Mindful Monday – Job or Life

Have you ever been asked the question

But what’s your dream job?

As someone whose primary source of income is from working in a supermarket, I can tell you I dislike this question.

It makes me feel undervalued and underappreciated. It makes me feel that my job is meaningless.

What is a dream job anyway? Do they actually exist?

Every job is going to have elements that you love and things that you hate.

There are going to be people that you love working with, and others you rather not.

Instead of asking the “what’s your dream job” question, perhaps we can ask

But what’s your dream life?

That is a question that I can get behind because everyone’s dream life is going to be very different.

My dream life is to spend quality time with my family, friends, and those that mean something to me.

I want to go on adventures, explore, have fun.

When COVID restrictions ease, I want to enter races.

There will be running, knitting, crocheting, reading, and photography because those are the things that I enjoy doing.

Working in a supermarket doesn’t make me any less of a person. I just have no desire to climb the corporate ladder. I am content to do my work and come home.

While this may not be the dream life for some, it’s not up to them, it’s my life, and I will choose to do with it with what I want.

Yes, there will be challenges, mistakes, and disappointments. Yet, I know that no matter what is thrown at me, I will learn and grow from it.

Go live your dream life, and live it imperfectly.
