High Five Friday #58

The winter solstice has been and gone.  Phew, that means we only have endured winter for a few more weeks and we get some warmer weather.

Woohoo! Summer is on its way! We can definitely give a YAY to that.

Ok, I don’t hate winter, but I’ve never been a fan of it.

Having cold hands and cold feet is no fun.  Chilblains on hands and toes are not amusing, and I wish one has to experience them.

The only thing winter is good for is that you are more likely to run better in colder conditions.

However, that being said, we are lucky in Australia because we can experience some sensational winter days. When the sun is out in all its glory. Now they are winter days I can live with.

Can you see that winter sun? Can you blame us for a family selfie?

This was taken just before living on a family adventure. We took the family (including my parents & sister) out to a nature reserve, located a 20-minute drive away from my parent’s house.

If you are ever near Lara, pack a picnic and go visit the Serendip Sanctuary.

.1. Mistakes

I can not tell you how many mistakes I have made in my knitting and crocheting lately. I’ve undone so much work because I just haven’t been happy with the result.

My current project is a shrug (my poncho redo), and well instead of making a rectangle, it’s turned into a rhombus.  Yeah, not the shape I’m after.  So yes, I’ve painstakingly undone all my work so I can start over.

The other reason I’m starting over is that once again I’ve underestimated how much wool I need, and well I’ve I need to do another redesign.

Fail!

.2. Acknowledge

A simple acknowledgement, or thank you can go a long way. This is why I’ve decided to support/back one of my favourite podcasts Straight & Curly.

.3. Test

After having a horrendous belly hangover in June, I bit the bullet and got some allergy/intolerance testing done. It was the kick up the bum I needed.

A blog post about this will be coming soon, it’s still in the works (I have a lot to say about it obviously).

.4. Fasting

One of the new things I have been trying is fasting.  Yes, I was hesitant at first, however, after trailing it now for a few weeks, I’m finding it quite beneficial.

While still in the testing phase, I have noticed days where it doesn’t work.  That’s ok, that’s why you test.

.5. Adjust

I’m so behind on my reading goal, I’ve decided to adjust my goal. Sometimes you just have to be realistic.

Keeping the 18 for 2018 theme going I’ve decided

5 Albums I Love

Thought I would do something a little bit different this month and share 5 albums that I love. Picking just 5 was hard. There were so many good albums to choose from.

I may have to do another list of 5 songs but for different periods in my life.

Because sometimes it’s not the whole album that speaks to you, sometimes it’s a song.

.1. Taxiride – Imaginate

An Aussie band, this album came out when I was in the midst of life at University.

One of my printmaking artworks is inspired by one of their songs.

You can listen to the album on Apple Music.

I never cared for track 6 “let me die young”.  But have learned to appreciate it now as an older adult.

.2. The Beatles – Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band

My dad was a Beatles fan, and I grew up listening to them.

This album, however, has to be my favourite. It was ahead of its time.

The album artwork alone has been an inspiration for many artists since then.

My favourite song to sing is “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”

.3. Mariah Carey – Fantasy

I don’t care for Mariah’s work now.  Her first 5 albums, in my opinion, are where she really shines.

Albums 6/7, yeah forgettable (Rainbow & Charmbracelet), with only a handful of songs that really shine.

Fantasy came along in a really troublesome year for me.  The song “looking in” felt like my life.

This is why Fantasy makes it to the list

.4. American Graffiti Soundtrack

My dad loved records, and this record would get played often.

Classic 50’s music.

I still loved this soundtrack.

.5. Goo Goo Dolls – Dizzy Up the Girl

When the song “Iris” came out, I was like who is this band, and how have I never heard of them before?

While I love the song, Iris, this album is still one of my all-time favourites.

With lines like “What you feel, is what you are, and what you are is beautiful” (Slide), it came out at a time of self-discovery.

Yes, another album during my Uni days.

The song “Black Balloon”, was the inspiration for another piece of printmaking artwork.
