Hair Care: Make Your Own Shampoo

Every girl loves a good hair day.  There is something about freshly shampoo hair that gives you a little spring in your step.

As someone who exercises a lot, I don’t actually wash my hair as often as you would think.

If you are thinking “ew gross, isn’t your hair all sweaty, and dirty and stuff.”  The answer yes it does get like that but ditching modern shampoo and just going back to basics has done wonders for my hair.

Living a sustainable lifestyle doesn’t have to be all that difficult.  One of the easiest and most affordable things you can change straight away is what use to wash your hair.

With ingredients, you will already have in your pantry, good old bi-carb soda and water will get your hair cleaner than you can imagine.

You’ll sometimes hear it called the “no poo” method because there is no shampoo in sight.

Shampoo Recipe

Wash your hair with ease with the no ‘poo method.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon bi-carb soda
  • 1 cup warm water

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the bi-carb soda into the cup of warm water
  2. Tip the mix over your head and massage into the scalp
  3. Rinse with water

Yes, it’s that simple.

If your hair is longer you may need to increase your ratios, but experiment to find out what works for you.

By washing my hair this way, it actually has volume and feels thicker and fuller.

Now, what about conditioner?  There are options for that too, but conditioner is a real personal thing, and it all depends on your hair. I’m still yet to find a method that I like.

When I do find something that is successful then yes I’ll share.

Tomorrow I will share with you what I do in between hair washes to keep it fresh.
