First Day of School

Miss K is a pro when it comes to school.  She’s been at it for 2 years now.  She’s totally going to rock grade 2.

Master M, he’s my baby, he’s a mummies boy and well I knew that his first day of school was going to be a lot different from that of his sisters.

When Kayla started, I was nervous but also excited for her.  Miles however well as I said he’s my baby, he’s my youngest, and well yes I was nervous for him too, but I was also a bit anxious for him as well. I wanted to make sure he was going to be ok.  And just so you know he was.  His teacher has been teaching for over 30 years, I think she knows the drill when it comes to preps.

Miles was super excited to put on the uniform and have a new bag and a new lunch box.  He was excited to be going to Kayla’s school.

Once we got to school though, he wasn’t excited anymore, he was very nervous. I don’t blame him. There were lots of kids and lots of parents, and it would have been very overwhelming.

He just wanted to be in Kayla’s classroom, and he didn’t understand that that wasn’t going to be.

We walked over to his class, hung up his bag, put away his books, and found his seat. We chatted and had lots of hugs and kisses, but you could see the tears in his eyes.  I would have stayed if I could, but I know the only way he will get used to his new environment is if he doesn’t always depend on me.

The school posted images of how the kids were going through their Facebook page, and he just look scared.  Thank goodness his first day of school fell on a Friday.  It gave the weekend to relax as a family.

When Monday rolled around I got told “mummy, you stay for 10 minutes”.  My response was “Of course, I can stay for 10 minutes”.  Then came line up for assembly, and oh boy did we have tears. I just wanted to pick him up and take him home, he looked so miserable.

After assembly was over Mrs. D allocated Miles to be the leader of the pack.  She knew exactly what she was doing, and by the end of the day, he was my happy boy again.

The following day, we had success, no tears, and one happy boy who happened to tell me off “you suppose to come in mummy, next time you do that”.  Yes Sir!
