I started my health journey 1 year ago.
I started off by doing more exercise. And let me tell you it was hard, there were days when I just did not want to do it. I think I worked out about 4 days a week back then.
However, it wasn’t until August 2011 that I started to track my food.
Here is something I wrote on 30th August 2011
I have been logging my food now for 3 weeks. So guess what! I’ve created a new habit. I actually really like logging my food. I’m concious now of what is going into my body, and if I’m not sure of something then I look it up.
You know you have changed your habits, when you go through a recipe and you break down the calorie content to find out what the calorie content is per serve.
For example. Tonight I made quiche. The recipe I used is from my high school cooking cook book (yes I still have it (Cookery the Australian way)). It’s one of the only quiche recipes I have seen that does not have any cream in it (just milk).
Well I broke down what the total calories would be. It’s roughly 1200 calories (for the entire quiche). So it’s about 300cals per serve.
You know you have changed when you write down the calories in the recipe book.I have also noticed that the kids are eating more veggies. This is a good thing. Last night Master M decided he would eat all the broccoli! Hey I wanted some too you know. Miss K, who is not such a big veggie eater (she’s a meat-a-sau-ras) well she has been eating it too. Ok so only 2 florets, but it’s 2 florets up from where she was before.
The kids also like it when I do exercise. Miss K is like “Mummy why aren’t you doing exercise”. It’s cute. They also like to do it with me. So if I create new habits, it rubs off on the kids (in a good way).
I have also noticed that my tummy is flatter. Yay.
I measured myself back on 1st August. I haven’t lost much in cm, only a few here and there, but the fact of the matter is that I have lost something!Small changes are good changes. So here is to the new me.
It took me until October to really decide what I wanted my weight goal to be. I had it as 68kg. I decided to change it to 65kg. Why 65kg? I don’t know, I guess because it was a weight I had not seen since my high school days.
I have however changed that goal. It’s now 62kg. I remember when I had the Wii fit it would tell me my ideal weight was 62kg. I thought that that was never going to happen. 62kg just seems so far fetched. However, I’m not far away from it at all. And the best part, it’s not even October yet, so not only have I smashed my 65kg goal, but I’m also on the way to my 62kg goal.
Besides being fitter and stronger and being able to do things that I just thought would not be possible, I do have more energy.
I’m also more confident in myself, and so much happier. I thought I was happy before, and I was, but now I’m content and happy. Don’t ask me to try to explain it, you’ll know it when you feel it. But I also have a very dear friend to thank for helping me feel that way.
It’s amazing what can happen in just one year.
